1903
Wilbur Wright (born 1867) and his brother, Orville (born 1871), stand at the forefront of the earliest aviation pioneers — two bicycle mechanics from Dayton, Ohio, who stunned the world by inventing powered flight. Their first successful powered flights on December 17, 1903 marked the culmination of several years of their own experiments with large kites and gliders and climaxed years of effort by other men to learn the secrets of flight.

2003
As was announced on September 12, 2000, at a special event held at the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C., EAA commissioned The Wright Experience to reconstruct the 1903 Wright Flyer Reproduction. The crowning event will take place on Dec. 17, 2003, at 10:35 a.m. in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, when the meticulously reconstructed Flyer attempts to repeat Orville Wright’s remarkable first flight—100 years later.
